Help Me Decide: Kiddie Handbags, Hot or Not?

The blogosphere has been all abuzz with this photo of Sarah Palin's daughter Piper carrying a fake Louis Vuitton Speedy bag.

Rather than turn this into some heated political discussion about the heinousness of knock-offs or Ms. Palin's 150K wardrobe, please help me decide:

kids carrying handbags, hot or not?

No way - and a fake on top of that really is bad.

Lots of little girls love to carry around handbags. It's part of the dress-up impulse. I say don't judge because your kids will then turn out to be the girliest girls on earth!

and while we're on the subject kids don't need cellphones either!

I don't mind kids with handbags. After all, they can carry some of their own stuff that way and lighten their mom's load ; )

However, I am definitely against fakes. There are plenty of great, non-fake bags out there for any budget. I don't see any good reason to support people who illegally rip off other businesses and often try to fool customers as well. Fakes are tacky.

So, I would much rather see Piper carrying a real version of that bag, but just barely. Yes, everything is relative, and some people have enough money to give their kids designer everything without worry for their pocket books. But, maybe there is still a line that parents cross sometimes and it is possible to give kids so much that they don't appreciate it -- or that not every kid has the same opportunities. What that line is, though, I don't presume to know.

My neice is 5 years old and carries a handbag, but it's definately not an LV (fake or not) and she has no clue what an LV is... Mostly she just puts her bangles and bubble mix in it... My daughter is not quite there yet though!

i have to think more about it... gotta be carfeul. My mom once got me some good knock-offs, which is fun when you're young. But a real bag...

I think that girls should carry age appropriate purses, not adult bag (and I'm noy big on fakes either. For the same money you can get something original and great).

Little kids with handbags can be adorable. I worked in a store that specialized in educational/developmental toys for babies and toddlers and one of the products we carried were toy handbags with objects you can pull out of the bag and put back in. Fill-and-spill toys are fascinating for young kids, as well as anything with handles that they can tote around, and something like a handbag is great for imaginative pretend play.

That being said, I think it's completely inappropriate for a kid to be carrying an LV, real or fake.
