As if the Upper West Side needs another beauty emporium. I mean, we've got a Sephora, L'Occitane, and Origins all within a stone's throw. So I was a little reluctant to give neighborhood newbie
Blue Mercury a shot without a little good-hearted kvetching first.
Open mouth, insert foot.
Like a kid in a candy store I played with all of my favorite beauty products (no really, the owner and I must've been separated at birth) to my heart's content. My new bath benefited as well; I scored a few candles and such to trick it out spa-style.

It's a great concept, except for the fact that it's run by a heartless phoney. She claims the company is progessing in a spiraling economy, yet she recently closed two stores. Both stores were given only a few days notice and the employees only given one weeks severance pay. She doesn't pay Holiday pay or Time and a half, and is uncaring to employees who have health issues, such as dealing with breast cancer. All she cares about is making a buck for herself, and that shows in the number of employees that have left the company both at the retail and the corporate levels.
Do yourself a favor and shop somewhere that shows compassion for the people who make the company run...the store employees, not the wicked queen who sits on her throne and collects the profits and squirrels them away for herself.
You can get the same products at Sephora or Nordstroms. It's nothing special at Bluemercury.
