New York Street Beat: The Bold and The Beautiful

When models boldly marched down the Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2008 Runway in black glossy lips we were a bit skeptical that the trend would catch on. Fast forward a few months and guess what – that YSL Pur gloss? Finito. Nada. Gone!

Black is the new red, and bold lips are being spotted all about town.

Though it’s hard to see in the photo, the gal on the right is one of the lucky few that grabbed the black gloss before it disappeared from store shelves – and we have to admit we’re impressed, she pulls it off without looking costumey.

If you’re not quite so bold then the classic red on the left just might unleash your inner siren.

Trends Report: Grey Matters

Fall brings colder weather, heavier clothes, and a slightly more serious makeup palette. Colors become darker, smokier, and muddied, with grey pigments a key ingredient thoughtfully added to the mix. Muted palettes – which took a back seat to Summer’s brights – are prominently featured at your local makeup counter. If you’re Muted – this season, you’ll find lots to experiment with. Not sure which color palette is right for you? Fill out your Color Profile now!

This season’s mauve, rose, and plum tones are the perfect complement when combined with darker greys or browns to create a smoky eye. Grey shadow for eyes is not unusual, but on your nails? Several lines have produced nail lacquer in shades that range from freshly poured cement to deep-dark asphalt. If you’re not so daring, try a plum or taupe with grey undertones to achieve the same unique effect.
