Get (Wolford) Tight

One of my favorite trends for fall is the fashiony-tight. If money were no object I would so get this Missoni pair priced at $150, down from $450:

But since money doesn't grow on trees, I think I could satisfy myself with these black lace-throwback-to-Madonna's-heyday version instead:

At a measly $20 (marked down from $45) I could throw in a pair of fingerless gloves as well. Wish I still had mine from the 80s.

Both by Wolford. Get them on Rue La La now until Friday. But hurry - quantities are limited and are sure to sell out!

Yeah, I'm Obsessed.

Though I've yet to reveal my fabulous new winter coat on this blog I continue to sniff out the deals...remember this Nanette Lepore one that I drooled over?

Well, it's on sale for a cool $200 bucks off at Bloomies.

Sample Sale Alert: Yoox

Fortunately for my wallet, this stunning Alexander McQueen jacket sold out AS I was posting this...learn from my mistake:

Visit the Yoox sample sale for prices of up to 90% off Marni, Miu Miu, Missoni, etc.

Go. Now.

That is all.

Beautiful Skin: Have It Your Wei

In keeping with my skin care fixation today I wanted to let you all know about this great deal from Wei East. I've talked about them before and I must admit I am totally addicted to their hand & body cream, so when I heard about this I had to share.

The wildly popular line is now offering shoppers the opportunity to buy 4 skin care products of their choice at a special rate of $39.96. Yeah, you heard right: pick what YOU want to treat your skin not what some marketing person threw together.

Confused about your skin type and how to treat it properly? Don't be. Login to our home page and complete your Skin Profile for customized advice based on your personal needs.

Whip It Good!

As women we are bombarded with beauty speak that involves getting our skin "glowing," "dewy," or "luminescent," to name a few.

Typically, these terms have little to do with my own tired old mug but I do have a friend that embodies all of these seemingly unattainable ideals so it gives me hope. The fact that she is a full time working grandmother is a whole other issue. The girl's skin really "glows." So much so that every time I see her our conversation inevitably turns towards the topic.

She insists that she is totally low-maintenance, her beauty regime consisting mainly of items purchased at the grocery store or pharmacy. Aside from the fish oil pills she takes daily her fave makeup brands are famously cheap. Wet & Wild, Physicians Formula and e.l.f. to name a few.

When I found this Shimmering Facial Whip had won Allure's 2008 Beauty Editor's Award I was intrigued. The fact that it costs only a buck has me making a beeline for the nearest Duane Reade, but it also makes me wonder if it's part of my pal's secret stash.

I'll have to fight the urge to turn her makeup bag inside to find out. Stay tuned.

What I Want To Look Like Right Now: As Seen On Ebay

Photobucket

You don't have to look too hard to find cute vintage dresses on eBay - but finding one that is so perfectly styled is harder to find than the elusive YSL PUR black gloss that I've been trying to get my paws on.

There's something very Rachel Bilson about this ensemble: from the little cap, to the peacock belt, and socks & boots combo - I want it all right now.

Check out the Bustown Modern store here.

Not Old, Advanced Style

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Some things never get old. Style is one of them.

Though they haven't been around long, Advanced Style has quickly become a must visit bookmark, and with good reason. AS is proof positive that style isn't about age, money, or labels - it's all about what works for the individual.

Sartorially speaking, there are so many wonderful things to point out about these folks; the fab hair and makeup, the natty overcoat, over-sized shades and accessories are personal reminders not to chuck my sense of style when I retire.

Don't you agree?

Trends Report: Flights of Fancy

By the looks of all the feathers flying around handbags, headbands, purses, and even clothing we’re collectively ready to nest for the season. The trend adds a touch of whimsy to your ensemble that is a bit more ladylike than your run-of-the-mill embellishment. It’s a little opulent, a little eccentric, and a whole lot unique. Keep it refined by leaving the hot pink boas to Angelyne and you’ll do fine.

Though fancy feathers have been around for several months, they don’t show any signs of migrating South for the Winter. When stars like Sarah Jessica Parker & Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen sport the look you know there will be tons of inexpensive options to look for in stores.

Want to make the trend truly yours? Consider a trip to the craft store for trimmings and let your imagination run wild. If you’re afraid to commit to embellishing a pricey item in your wardrobe, pick up an inexpensive diamond-in-the-rough at your local thrift and have fun with it. Consider hot-gluing peacock plumes to old pumps to jazz up your party dress or maybe just a simple headband made of pheasant-backed ribbon.

Of course there’s always the ultimate in low maintenance DIY for the laziest among us – tuck a feather in the brim of your fedora for a pop of color and an instant update.

Let's Get Ready To Rumble: Battle Of The Bags

PhotobucketPhotobucket

While perusing the sales at Zappos I came across these totes from Betsey Johnson and Harajuku Lovers. I was struck by their similarity in color and cheeky style.

Since I am a fan of both ladies, and I'm feeling a wee bit playful this morning, I ask you: in a style war match, who's bag would beat up the other, or to put it in more ladylike terms, which would you prefer to carry your stuff in?

Incidentally, they're both on sale so all interested parties are in luck.

Shady Politicians

PhotobucketPhotobucket

A while ago I asked if you'd wear a designer frock emblazoned with your choice for our next Commander in Chief. As the end draws thankfully near, I'm curious: would you rock these bedazzled shades for your guy?

If so, find them, and similarly blingged out gear here from designer Ann Hand.

Street Beat: Piksi's Instinct

Bill Blass once said “Style is a matter of instinct.” Heini, a student of medicine in Helsinki, is the living embodiment of that sentiment. Though it’s obvious that she takes great care to attend to the details; her wonderful retro coif, the glam makeup, and just right accessories are proof – the overall effect is, in actuality, effortless.

We have a sneaking suspicion that her inherent sense of style prevents her from leaving the house in sweats and UGG boots – her perfectly pulled-together look is such an inspiration that we’ve collectively stepped up our game.
