Street Beat: Pretty In Pink

Trendy Swedish Beauty

One look at her glowing peaches and cream complexion and we were totally captivated by Johanna Öst’s photos. The artist, who hails from Vallentuna, Sweden, lists among her interests Barbie, fashion, folklore, and the 18th century. But did you really need us to tell you that? We adore how she perfectly embodies all of her stylish inspirations and more – the soft flushed cheeks, romantic curls, and perfect cupid bow lips – it’s all so dreamily Jane Austen.

We’re pretty sure the whole look would bring Mr. Darcy to his knees.

Trends Report: What's Hot In Hair? Find Out With Joel Warren & Edward Tricomi!

Master stylists Edward Tricomi and Joel Warren have spent their careers setting hair trends tailored to their elite clientele. Now, they share their expert knowledge, predicting the season’s Must-Have cuts and colors and show Always InStyle members how to achieve the looks at home.

Clean Lines. “Clean lines are going to make their way into many cuts and styles this season – particularly in a very straight, slightly below-the-shoulder cut with minimal layers,” predicts Tricomi. “These strong lines will also be apparent in stronger bangs and short bobs reminiscent of the 20’s. The look works for curls, too – just wear it in a “V” shape (longer in the front and shorter in the back) to maintain manageability.”

High Shine. “Matted hair is fine for wavier, messier styles, but clean lines call for high shine,” advises Tricomi. “Use a nylon and boar bristle to help keep hair knot-free while distributing oils from the scalp through the rest of the hair. Add a shine-enhancing product to damp hair and then style to create a slight sheen without weighing hair down.”

Bold Color. “Hair color is going to be bigger and bolder this season,” says Warren. “Look for brighter reds and richer brunettes. Blondes will be a wheat color with more intensity and less platinum tone. The season’s sharp, clean cuts bring out the richness of these saturated shades. Keep bold color fresh and fade-free with color-protecting shampoo and conditioner.”

The Trends Report: Making Waves

Just because Summer is officially over it doesn’t mean we’re ready to throw in the beach towel…at least not when it comes to our hair. We’re not sure why a day spent ocean side delivers deliciously devil-may-care hair, but we’re sure it’s something we want year round. Getting tousled, windblown beach hair from a bottle can be a no-brainer: irresistibly sexy hair without all those travel headaches, not to mention pesky sun damage? Sign us up.

We consulted stylist Edward Tricomi who said getting the look is easy as 1-2-3. “The salt in beach water roughens hair up, giving it texture and a certain look women love. Getting the look at home without taking a trip to the sandy beach is simple. By using a combination of the right styling products you can create the same effect easily, no matter your hair texture.”

Step 1: Start by spraying a volumizer on damp hair at the roots and hairline. The spray boosts lift at the roots, creates the right amount of bounce and volume without the stickiness of the salt water, imparts shine and de-frizzes strands.

Step 2: Next, work a little bit of gel through damp hair and pin in loose spirals around the head. Edward recommends Blue Gel from his own line because it provides firm yet flexible hold.

Step 3: Ideally you’ll want hair to air dry, but you can speed up the process by blow-drying then removing the pins and using your fingers to shake out and style hair.

Rosa Cha Spring 2009 Runway: Get The Look Now With Edward Tricomi

Fashion Week is coming to a close and it's cold and rainy here in the City. As I stare out at Bryant Park from my office window, I'm in dire need of a sunny pick-me-up.

This week's Rosa Cha show is just the ticket.

The Brazilian swimwear designer sent models floating down the runway in perhaps the most glam bathing suits and flowy caftans I've ever seen.

Pistachio, white, and coral suits encrusted with luxe embellishments like Swarovski crystals and chunky beads make these suits too pretty to get wet -- if I were about 10 lbs lighter I think I'd throw a sarong around one, get my hair did, and head out for a night on the town.

The suits will have to wait, but the sexy, glossy hair? I'm all over it.

I asked our resident hair expert Edward Tricomi how he achieved the model's sleek runway locks. Turns out the secret is in the serum.

Pre Blow-Drying Calming Serum to be exact.

This lightweight formula tames frizz and adds shine without weighing hair down. It also acts as a shield, protecting the hair from the sun and humidity. (A big plus since frizzy hair just won't cut it when rockin' the Rosa Cha)

Edward used a round bristle brush, divided the hair and blew out each section separately spritzing volumizer as he went along to maximize the body and shine. A dollop of serum later and off the girls went, looking utterly fabulous.
