Trends Report: Say Eye

If eyes are the windows to our souls, then mine need some serious maintenance to reflect my sparkling character – unfortunately, all of the colorful shadows and brilliant eyeliner in the world can’t mask pooped-out peepers. If you’re constantly on the prowl for eye products that brighten, de-puff, and minimize fine lines, keep these tips in mind.

Be well-rested (or at least look that way). There are several things that you can try before dipping into your cosmetics bag for a miracle product. The tried-and-true sliced cucumbers over the eyes works wonders, as do sliced raw potatoes. Or try an old trick of mine: brew some chamomile tea before bed, drink the tea – it makes you sleepy, and then place the tea bags in your fridge over night. In the a.m., place the chilled bags over eyes for about 15 minutes, and voilá, eyes de-puffed!

Choice. There are essentially three types of product categories: one for day, another for evening, and then a third for special treatments. A day cream’s job is to reduce puffiness and brightens dark circles. The evening is when all the heavy lifting occurs…ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids and retinols work to repair and prevent further damage. Combined with the restorative benefits of a good night’s sleep, your serum is really cooking.

Lastly, special treatments are just that; masks, gels, or creams that soothe, brighten, and firm and are used occasionally to further enhance your skincare regimen. Look for these key ingredients: caffeine, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, kojic acid, copper, green tea, and protein peptides.
